The Scottish singer-songwriter picks up the highly coveted gong as her second award of the night.

Emeli Sande has won the prestigious Mastercard Album Of The Year award at the BRIT Awards 2013 tonight (20th February) at the music industry event in London.

The 'Next To Me' singer, who was nominated for a total of four gongs at this year's ceremony, won for her 2012 debut record 'Our Version Of Events', which has achieved huge sales over the past twelve months.

Emeli was nominated opposite Plan B, Alt-J, Paloma Faith and Mumford & Sons in the highly coveted category, and jumped up out of her seat with a huge smile when she was announced as recipient of the award by Bryan Ferry.

The Scottish singer-songwriter gave an emotional speech while accepting the award as she held her BRIT award prize aloft.

"Wow. I think I'm a very unlikely pop star," Emeli began. "This is an album I wrote because I didn't have the confidence to sing these things in person.

"So many people connected with this album and connected with these words and it's incredible and makes me feel less lonely," the 'Clown' singer explained. "Thank you to everybody who let me make the album I wanted to make, you know who you are and thank you.

"This is a dream, really, thank you for this year and thank you for this award," she added.

Earlier in the evening the 'My Kind Of Love' singer also picked up the BRIT award for British Female Solo Artist, after being named the Critics Choice recipient back in 2012.
