“Somebody goes, ‘I thought you said no work for the rest of the year?’ Dude, that’s not work,” he said.

Panic! At The Disco’s Brendon Urie surprised fans by sharing a clip of a new metal song he’d written in a livestream this week.

Across all of their six albums so far, Panic! At The Disco have gone through a range of different sounds but Brendon Urie’s latest musical experiment is admittedly a little different.

Panic! At the Disco are currently at work on their seventh album and frontman Brendon Urie has been broadcasting himself daily on Twitch from his home studio, where he’s working on new music.

But while his latest broadcast didn’t give us any new album songs, it did show us what the band’s music might sound like if it was an entirely new genre, when Brendon shared a clip of an unnamed track he’d written while stoned and drunk one night.

Brendon Urie made the new metal song when he was stoned and drunk in his room

“Somebody goes, ‘I thought you said no work for the rest of the year?’ Dude, that’s not work,” Brendon said, after playing a clip of the song. “That’s literally me stoned and drunk in my room, sitting in this room and going, ‘Oh, let me grab a guitar real quick.’ I played that on a click [track], and then I automated the drums. I did one cymbal, one snare track and then one kick track. That was it.”

It’s not the first time Brendon has dabbled in a metal sound either. In an interview from earlier this year, he talked about how he’d one day like to do a whole metal project.

“I want to do a metal project in particular. I actually just played something for my bandmates recently - we have an old song called ‘The Calendar’ and I made a metal version of it from years back. It’s like 90 seconds long and is really fun. Who knows, I might even put that out on SoundCloud on a whim some time soon!” he said.

For now though, he’s working on the follow up to the band’s sixth album ‘Pray For The Wicked’, which we can only hope will be released sometime next year.
