This is a mess...
It's no secret that we're huge fans of Shay Mitchell. Ever since the 31-year-old actress first appeared on our screens, we've been obsessed with her. From her breakthrough role as Emily Fields in the CW's iconic hit teen drama Pretty Little Liars to her latest turn as Peach Salinger in Lifetime's new psychological thriller You, the Canadian star never fails to impress us.

However, the actress is in the midst of a bit of controversy at the moment. Longterm Shay admirers will know that she is an ambassador for the international skincare brand Bioré. Shay can often be found doing promo for the company on social media. So far so normal. However, Shay's latest ad for the line is a little confusing and it didn't take long for people to start dragging it.
Yesterday, Shay took to Snapchat to advertise a new Bioré product: a make-up remover. In the post, Shay is seen sporting a full face of make-up. She then introduces the product by saying: "I have obviously tried my fair share of make-up removers but these are by far my favourite". Shay then demonstrates how great the product is.
This is where things get strange though. Instead of actually removing her make-up with the product, Shay simply lightly dabs her face with it (she may not even touch her face, we'll let you judge) and then praises how brilliant it is. Then she proclaims: "It leaves my skin feeling so fresh", in spite of the fact that she's not even used it.

Unsurprisingly, reactions to the video are varied. Some find it funny (there a lot of 'telling lies' memes in the comments)', then there are those who simply aren't impressed (if she's being paid to advertise a product, it doesn't seem like too much to ask that she actually uses it) and others aren't sure what to make of it at all.
We're pretty certain that Shay probably had commitments after she filmed the post that meant that she needed to keep her make-up on. Nevertheless, it still seems odd that she didn't just film the sponsored content at a different time.
As it stands, Shay is yet to comment on the backlash. We shall update you if and when she does.
