'Devil lips' are the latest Russian beauty trend to hit Instagram

Please, let's not make "devil lips" a thing.
If you found the wavy eyebrow fad of 2017 triggering, just wait. Just when you thought the lip filler trend couldn't get any wilder, something else comes and trumps it. This time it's not Kylie Jenner's doing. Apparently, "devil lips" are the latest cosmetics fad and it's truly wild.
At one point, everyone was obsessed with Rihanna's super-defined cupid bow but devil lips are taking that definition to ridiculous new heights. Devil lips, also known as octopus lips, can be achieved by creating a wavy line across your lip line.

The new trend is thought to have been started by a Russian plastic surgeon named Emelian Braude and now it's sweeping across Instagram. Basically, the procedure involves injecting filler into the outer lip to create a wave.

But, before you start thinking of how to possibly achieve this bizarre look, we probably won't be seeing everyone rocking squiggly lips anytime soon. Most of the images on Instagram are believed to be the result of makeup or Photoshop.
"You cannot change the anatomical shape of the lips like this," Dr Krystyna, cosmetic dentist and facial aesthetician, told Dazed Beauty. "You can sharpen and contour by enhancing the vermillion border, but these ‘devil lips’ are unnatural."
It's actually dangerous too and you can cause serious damage if you attempt to create the look with fillers. She added: "Filler injected inappropriately could end up in a blood vessel, causing blockages and leading to necrosis (death) of the tissue. The vessels are around the lips, so using filler inappropriately is what can cause this."
The trend hasn't proved popular on Reddit, with some describing it as looking like "blisters" or "an exotic form of herpes". But if you're in love with devil lips, the good news is that if you can achieve them without any of the risks. Simply use Photoshop or Facetune, or if you're particularly skilled, a bit of makeup.
