Police Crackdown on Car Key Thefts

Kings Heath police have been cracking down on car key burglary

Officers in Birmingham executed 10 warrants today (2 August) across Kings Heath in a bid to tackle car key burglary.

Supported by OSU, local neighbourhood teams and officers from West Mercia Police, seven people have been arrested in connection with burglaries across the wider force area.

Searches are continuing this afternoon, but so far a small quantity of Class A and Class B drugs have been seized, as well as drug paraphernalia and tools which we believe could be used to commit a burglary.

Under the operation name Electron, officers in Birmingham have seen a substantial reduction of burglary offences.

Inspector James Ashcroft from, Birmingham West, said: "We want the warrants to show members of our community that we take offences such as these very seriously.

"We want the public to feel safe in their homes and we are doing all we can to reduce this type of crime. Our investigations are intelligence-led, so I encourage anyone with information to get in touch. We will listen and take action.

"We also want the burglars to know, that we will do all we can to disrupt their criminal behaviour and that it is not welcome in our area."

As part of ongoing Operation Electron work, two men were arrested and charged earlier this week. Andrew Spybey, aged 43, of Glenhaven Road, Birmingham, has been charged with attempted burglary and appeared before Birmingham Magistrates Court yesterday (1 August) where he was remanded.

Mark Greenhouse, aged 35, of Cheslyn Grove, Birmingham, has been charged with two counts of burglary and theft, two counts of fraud, taking a vehicle without consent and driving without a licence. He is due to appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court today (2 August).
