"We want her to get well"...
YouTube has decided to postpone production on a new Demi Lovato documentary.
The video streaming platform was in the midst of recording a film about the 'Skyscraper' hitmaker when she was admitted to hospital after an alleged overdose last week. Filming has now been put 'on hold' to give Demi the space and privacy that she needs to get better.
Speaking to IndieWire about the upcoming documentary, Susanne Daniels, YouTube's Global Head of Originals said: "It’s in production. It’s on hold right now. That’s up to Demi what she wants to say and what she wants to do.” According to the news outlet, the film was originally due to come out this Autumn but will now likely be released in early 2019.
Demi released her first documentary Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated with YouTube last October to rave reviews. Demi was praised for her unflinching honesty with regards to her history with substance abuse, bulimia, sexuality and so much more.

Discussing its follow-up, Daniels said: "The first doc went over so well, with her fans [...] that there was a clamoring for more Demi. So we said, ‘OK, let’s do more Demi.’ And she was game. So it follows her life really for the past year. And like the first one, she honestly talks about her struggles a lot, in the second one too.”
Daniels also called Demi her "hero" and added: "She’s someone who has been honest, so candid about her struggles, from day one when she was a teenager. And they’re real struggles, and they’re multiple struggles. And she’s trying so hard and I think the outpouring of sympathy for her is a reflection of how she has shared her battles so publicly and so honestly. She talked about them in the first documentary.
"So I think we’re on pause, we want her to get well, and she’ll decide what she wants to say or not say about this.”
While the prospect of a new Demi documentary is incredibly exciting, we're glad to hear that those creating it with Demi are putting her health first. Our thoughts are with her as she recovers.
