Shawn Mendes is back with another incredible new single. 'Nervous' is the fifth and final song that will precede his highly anticipated self-titled album and it's easily his sexiest single to date. It's about not being able to keep your cool over a crush and from the falsetto to the mature lyrics, it's pure pop perfection: 'I'm not usually like this but I like what you're doing to me'. It sounds like a cross between 'Bad Liar' by Selena Gomez and 'Make Me Feel' by Janelle Monáe. We're obsessed.

The single was produced by Shawn's longtime collaborator Scott Harris and he co-wrote it with chart queen Julia Michaels. As well as being a popstar in her own right ('Issues', 'I Miss You', 'Jump'), Julia is responsible for monster hits ranging from 'Sorry' by Justin Bieber to 'Love Myself' by Hailee Steinfeld. She even had a major hand in both 'Bad Liar' and 'Make Me Feel' so the resemblance comes as no surprise.

To make things even more exciting, Julia is set to feature on a duet on Shawn's album called 'Like to Be You'. If it's anywhere near as good as 'Nervous', we're in for a treat.

Speaking about the single in a making-of-the-album video on YouTube, Shawn revealed: "'Nervous was the first time that I got to work with Julia Michaels. I'm sure everybody knows how incredible a songwriter she is, how incredible an artist she is. She's this ball of emotion that is kind of uncontrollable and she feels sadness and she feels happiness and she feels love and heartbreak all at the same time." What a woman.

Opening up about the direction of the single, Shawn said: "It was just so awesome because I felt like I was allowed to just be free with the music and I was allowed to experiment on what I wanted to do with that Prince kind of sounding tone in the chorus and create not a cocky song but that cocky type of feeling in the music."

He then adds: "It's quite funny because the actual concept of the song is super insecure and 'I get nervous around you' but the song is this like 'I'm the man' type thing so I love the contrast between the two."

Shawn ends the video by saying: "I think that 'Nervous' is probably going to be a fan favourite on the album." And he's right. We haven't been able to stop playing it on repeat since he released it. Between this, 'In My Blood', 'Lost In Japan', 'Youth' and 'Where Were You in the Morning?', it looks like Shawn is about to release his best LP to date.

Shawn Mendes the album comes out this Friday. We cannot wait to hear it in full.
