"I don’t think we knew what to do with those feelings."
You might have been shocked when Camila Cabello started a relationship with Shawn Mendes earlier this year (4 July, to be exact) but their heartwarming love story actually started much earlier than we thought. Camila has now revealed that she has had feelings for her 'Señorita' collaborator since 2015.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Camila spoke about how her friendship with Shawn blossomed into a romantic connection. "During 'I Know What You Did Last Summer,' I really bonded with him as more than a friend," she explained. I think he did, too, but we were both really young, and he was experiencing the pressures of his career. I don’t think we knew what to do with those feelings.

"It was this awkward thing where we both liked each other, but we weren’t together. It was just weird. An energy was there from the beginning, but after that song, we didn’t spend as much time together."
Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes were only brought closer together when they started working on their hit single 'Señorita' – and the feelings soon came rushing back. She added: "Our paths just didn’t cross in that way romantically until we started hanging out again and writing. For me, it just brought it back."
Since getting together, Camila and Shawn have practically been inseparable. If they're not gushing about their love for each other, they're holding hands and kissing. Shawn recently admitted he too had feelings for Camila well before they started their relationship. During a Q&A in Aukland, New Zealand, Shawn revealed how be used to discuss Camila while trying to come up with songs.
He said: "I was 15. And I've never wrote songs before and so I remember I was in the studio and they were like, 'This is how you play guitar' and they taught me how to play guitar and piano and we would just sit there and I’d be like, 'Yeah I like this girl, her name's Camila…'"
