The video will reach the landmark on the same day it is claimed that the world will end.
PSY's music video for 'Gangnam Style' is approaching one billion views on YouTube.
As of 10am (GMT) this morning (21st December), the video has 998million views – and is expected to comfortably get to one billion before the end of today.
The 'Gangnam Style' video has only been online since 15th July, but is already the most-watched video on the video-sharing website.
Coincidentally, the milestone will take place on the same day as the Mayan calendar speculation about worldwide Armageddon.
In just six months, PSY has become one of the most recognisable music stars on the planet and has enjoyed high profile meetings with the likes of President Barack Obama and the head of the United Nations.
Meanwhile, 'Gangnam Style' has been named in the 2012 rundown of the words of the year.
Collins Dictionary selected 12 words which defined each of the months of 2012 and PSY's smash hit took the accolade for November.
Other terms include the "games makers" of the London 2012 Olympics as well as "superstorm" for October following the devastation of hurricane Sandy.
