Fans compared Camila's songs from Romance to MARINA's music after her performance on SNL.
Camila Cabello is being accused of "ripping off" MARINA with her new song 'Cry for Me' and "copying" 'Karma' with 'Liar'.
Camila Cabello is killing it right now. After topping the charts all summer long with her Shawn Mendes duet 'Señorita', she is currently getting ready to release her highly anticipated second album Romance. First things first, she dropped 'Shameless' and 'Liar' as the lead singles from the record, then she blessed us with 'Cry for Me' and 'Easy' just weeks apart and, on Saturday, she made her SNL debut by paying homage to Madonna's 1990 MTV VMAs performance of 'Vogue'.

However, Camila is also facing some backlash from MARINA (fka Marina and the Diamonds) fans.
On Saturday Night Live (Oct 12), Camila performed not one, but two, of her new songs. Dressed in a simple white dress, she delivered a stripped-back version of 'Easy'. Camila also sang 'Cry for Me', donning a Marie Antoniette look, complete with a fan, reminiscent of the queen of pop, Madonna, herself. The performances, for the most part, received widespread praise online but MARINA fans are not impressed.

Someone tweeted a video of Camila's performance of 'Cry for Me' and wrote: "why is this literally a marina song". The tweet quickly amassed over 60,000 likes and hundreds of replies. One person responded: "Holy shit she totally ripped off Marinas music AND singing im", another wrote: "they’re stealing marinas sound" and someone added: "her voice even sounds like marina ?? like".
Another tweet also went viral in which someone wrote: "I’ve been saying it for so long. Her song “Liar” is a rip-off of Marina’s “Karma”" alongside a clip of both songs together. People also accused Camila of "ripping-off" Kali Uchis with 'Liar' as fans noticed similarities between it and Kali's single 'Nuestro Planeta'. All three songs have a similar melody and tempo.

This isn't the first time that Camila has been called out for copying another artist either. Just last month, Halsey and Lana Del Rey fans accused her of stealing her Romance aesthetic from Halsey and Lana's previous eras. However, both Halsey and Lana defended Camila and shut down the accusations.

We imagine that, while Camila may have been inspired by Marina and Kali with her new era, she had no intention of copying them. As it stands Camila, MARINA and Kali are yet to address the comparisons. We shall update you if they do.
