The female stars were also reportedly in talks to take up a coaching role on rival show The Voice.

Mariah Carey has hit out at reports that she and Nicki Minaj have been feuding on the set of American Idol.

The 'Fly' rapper was confirmed alongside country singer Keith Urban as the final two judges for the panel this past weekend and the four judges got together for the first time on Sunday (16th September) afternoon.

The 'Dreamlover' singer quickly quashed any reports during a press conference and told MTV News that any such talk was nonsense.

"How are we gonna feud in two days? A feud takes a little longer to spread out," she said.

"It's fun, it's music, it's singing, it's laughter," she added.

It has also emerged that both Mariah and Nicki came close to signing up to appear as coaches on The Voice before finalising deals to join the judging panel of American Idol, according to Us magazine.

Today (18th September) it has also been confirmed that Usher and Shakira would be taking up the mentor positions previously occupied by Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera on The Voice for the fourth season next year.

Meanwhile, Nicki is also recently unveiled her new song 'The Boys' which will feature on the upcoming re-release of her album 'Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded'.
