In a series of Instagram Stories posted on Monday (9 December), Hayley laid out the situation, explaining that "certain Paramore fans" had created fake profiles so that they could gain access to the private social media profiles of her relatives. She added that the fans who had done this also publicly shared photos from the private accounts and called the behaviour "beyond fucked up".
"People who didn't ask for a life in any sort of spotlight do not deserve to be expose to this type of encroachment," the singer wrote.
She continued: "I'm so disappointed that any fans of supporters would ever do this. I feel violated and partially responsible for the violation of my family's privacy. It's not even about the photos that were shared, it's the whole principle of the thing."
Fans rushed to defend the singer, urging others to respect Hayley and her family's privacy.
"Unbelievably angry at 'fans' that posed to be members of Hayley Williams’ family to gain access to her family’s personal accounts. There’s being a 'fan' and then there’s being a stalker," Tweeted one fan.
"Stans have been pretending to be part of Hayley Williams family tree in order to be accepted into her actual relatives [sic] private accounts. They then share pics from there publicly. All these ‘fans’ are the absolute worst. Why can’t you admire your idols healthily and respectfully," another wrote.
Hayley's Instagram comments were also flooded with apologetic fans wishing her well after her revelations about this breach of privacy.
Paramore are currently on hiatus. Back in September, the band announced with a heartfelt letter that they would taking some time off from making music.
