Halsey apologises for unintentional 9/11 "joke" in response to negative Manic review

Halsey inadvertently tweeted that she wanted the One World Trade Center to collapse following a recent Pitchfork review.

Halsey has come under fire over a recent tweet in which she unknowingly called for the One World Trade Center to collapse.

After months of anticipation, Halsey released her third studio album Manic this week. The new project features her hit singles 'Without Me', 'Graveyard' and 'You Should Be Sad', alongside collaborations with Dominic Fike, Alanis Morisette and SUGA from BTS. The record has, for the most part, received positive reviews from critics but some reviews were less favourable.

Pitchfork gave the album a 6.5 rating, and tweeted: "Too much of this album sounds like the amorphous pop that you might associate with a miserable Lyft ride." Upset with what they had written, Halsey clapped back at Pitchfork. However, in doing so, she inadvertently tweeted an insensitive tweet about 9/11. She's now made clear that it was a complete accident.

Yesterday (23 Jan), Halsey tweeted: "Can the basement that they run p*tchfork out of just collapse already." What Halsey did not realise is that Pitchfork is part of Condé Nast and their offices are based in New York City in the One World Trade Center. In other words, Halsey essentially asked for the building which was built after the 9/11 terrorist attacks to fall down.

Understandably, it didn't take long for the internet to realise that Halsey had made a mistake, and someone tweeted: "Losing my mind thinking about the person on Halsey's team who had to tell her she just called for the collapse of one world trade."

Noticing the backlash, Halsey took to Twitter to explain herself. She wrote: "ABSOLUTELY deleted it upon realizing this. Was just trying to make a joke! Intended zero harm. Just figured I could poke at them back with the same aloof passive aggression they poke at artists with!" She then added: "Clearly a misunderstanding."

Halsey has since deleted both tweets.
