The 'Rockstar' rapper told his record label he wanted to record a version of the track.
Dappy has revealed that he nearly recorded a cover of Gotye's number one single 'Someone That I Used To Know'.
The track prevented the N-Dubz star from scoring his second number one hit on the Vodafone Big Top 40 at the weekend.
Speaking to The Sun, Dappy revealed that he had previously tried to convince his record label to let him record his own version of the song with a female vocalist like Jessie J.
"I've been beaten by Gotye's 'Someone That I Used To Know' but it's funny cos months back I begged my label to let me cover the song with a girl like Jessie J and release it here," he said.
"But my label boss had just signed the song. He said I should be an A&R man."
'Rockstar' is the second single to be taken from the rapper's forthcoming debut album and features Queen's Brian May.
