Wendy accused Shawn and Camila of faking their relationship and appeared to speculate about Shawn's sexuality.
Wendy Williams has come under fire for saying that she believes Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello aren't really a couple.
Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello began dating this summer. Rumours that the two stars were together first surfaced after they released their single 'Señorita' in July, then they were spotted kissing, cuddling and holding hands in public and, just a few weeks later, they confirmed that they were in a relationship.

Since then, they have attended multiple awards shows with each other, gushed about how in love they are in interviews and even gone viral with their infamous kissing video. Fans can't get enough Shawmila. However, TV host Wendy Williams has just accused them of faking their romance.
Discussing the AMAs on the Wendy Williams Show on Monday (Nov 25), Wendy made some controversial comments about Shawn and Camila. She said: "Camila was performing with that man Shawn Mendes. They're still trying to make us believe that he's into her, if you know what I'm saying and I think you do. He looks so awkward up there with that girl." She then added: "How you doing, Shawn?"
This isn't the first time that Wendy has come for Shawn and Camila's relationship either. Previously on her show, she stated outright that she thinks their romance is a "charade" and that they were only dating to get their song "to number one". She said: "She's lookin' like 'Get my booty' and he's lookin' like 'When do we have to stop this charade?' I'm like when your song goes to number one."
Fans are now calling out Wendy for making "dangerous" remarks about Shawn and Camila and also appearing to speculate about Shawn's sexuality. A fan tweeted: "how is it acceptable to talk about a 21 years old boy like this and make closeted jokes on a talk show? how? I truly don't care if you don't like Shawn and Camila, you all have officially crossed the lines. Wendy Williams is trash."
Another person tweeted: "Wendy is such a trash person. That’s so damn low trying to force a sexuality on Shawn even when he already said he’s straight plus calling his relationship fake. Smh"

wendy is bottom tier and she exudes bitterness. speaking on someone’s sexuality, that ISNT yours, can be so dangerous & damaging. to make a mockery out of someone’s sexuality is inhumanely insensitive. shawn is a straight man, who just so happens to be a little more fem. PERIOD. https://t.co/ULeu0RLACM

Everyone thinking Wendy Williams spilled the 'truth' on Shawn Mendes clearly doesn't see it's disgusting AF. She's either (1) forcing a sexuality on someone purely based on stereotypes, thereby maintaining them or (2) attacking someone who isn't willing to share their sexuality.

Just last year, Shawn opened up to Rolling Stone about how the incessant rumours and 'jokes' that he is gay affect him. He said: "In the back of my heart, I feel like I need to go be seen with someone, like a girl, in public, to prove to people that I’m not gay.” He then went on to add that his trolls "are so lucky [he's] not actually gay and terrified of coming out. That’s something that kills people. That’s how sensitive it is."
It goes without saying that gay 'jokes' are not funny and speculating about people's sexuality is wrong. As it stands, Wendy hasn't responded to the backlash. We shall update you if she does.
