All clear given at York security alert

Staff at an office in York have been given the all clear after a security alert at their office.

North Yorkshire Police evactuated Aviva PLC on Rougier Street around 7.20 am after reports a suspicious package was found in the post room.

A cordon was put in place around the building and members of staff were evacuated to the nearby war memorial.

Army bomb disposal experts arrived at the scene at around 8.50am and have now given the package the all clear.

All cordons have been removed and surrounding roads have re-opened.

North Yorkshire Police have evacuated a York city centre office after a suspect package was found in the mail room.

Police were called at around 7.20am after reports a suspicious package was found in the post room of Aviva PLC on Rougier Street.

A cordon was put in place around the building and members of staff were evacuated to the nearby war memorial.

Army bomb disposal experts arrived at the scene at around 8.50am and are currently examining the package.

Rougier Street and Station Road are currently closed to traffic and pedestrians, however buses are being allowed through the cordon.
