Teenager Charged With Murder Of Ex-Sheffield University Students In Florida

A 16 year old Boy has been charged with the murder of two former Sheffield Univeristy students while they were on holiday in Florida.

25 year old James Cooper and 24 year old James Kouzaris, were shot dead in the Newtown area of Sarasota on the 16th April.

Shawn Tyson has been charged as an adult on two counts of first degree murder. He is expected to go to trial within the next 18 months.

Authorites in Florida have admitted they were wrong to release Shawn Tyason after a previous offence, hours before he allegedly shot and killed Cooper and Kouzaris.

He had been held after shots were fired at a car on 7 April and a judge said he was concerned the boy posed a danger to the public.

His warning was not passed on to a second judge who released him on 15 April.

Mr Cooper and Mr Kouzaris were killed a day later.
