Organisers have named the man who died in the Great North Run.

David Colley collapsed near to the finish line of the half marathon on Sunday (13th September)

The money raised from the JustGiving page will help the British Heart Foundation.


Family and friends of Mr Colley set the page up, saying:
"David was a regular runner who loved taking part in the Great North Run.  He was a wonderful husband and father and we are so grateful for everyone's thoughts, kind words and support.

If you wish to make a donation, please donate to the British Heart Foundation."

Organisers have named the man who died in the Great North Run.

David Colley, 58, from Hull collapsed in the last mile of the half marathon as he approached the finish line in South Shields.

Race organisers said he was attended to immediately by the emergency services but a post mortem has concluded he died of natural causes.

Mr Colley, described as a regular runner, had previously competed in numerous Great North Runs during the last 10 years.

A statement from his family said: 

'David was a regular runner who loved taking part in the Great North Run and always looked forward to the event. We are absolutely devastated.'
