600 schools are shut in West Yorkshire and dozens more across the rest of the county.
Almost 300 are closed in South Yorkshire and 50 in North Yorkshire.
Up to 25 centimetres of snow is expected in some parts of Yorkshire across the rest of the day.
There is an Amber warning in place for the North and West, which is the second most severe.
South and East Yorkshire have a yellow warning with around 5 centimetres expected.
Over 800 homes were without electricity in Malton earlier after a major outage but power has now been restored.
All flights are suspended at Leeds Bradford airport and also at Robin Hood airport.
Over in Manchester the runway has now reopened and flights can operate again, but knock-on delays and disruption can still be expected.
On the roads there are delays on the M62 in West and East Yorkshire and also on the M1 and M18 in South Yorkshire
