A woman’s woken up to find a burglar with a claw hammer in her bedroom.

It happened on Monday (Feb 21) at around 12.45pm at her home in the Nutfield Place in the Landport area of Portsmouth.

The victim, a 25-year-old woman was asleep in the bedroom of her home in when an unknown male broke in.

She woke up to find the offender in her bedroom and realising she was there, the male threatened the victim before fleeing the property.

 He is described as:

 - A white man aged between 18 and 23 years old

 - Around 5ft 7ins and 5ft 8ins, and of a medium build

 - Believed to have blond hair

 - Wearing a light grey tracksuit with the hood up

He is believed to have left the house carrying a claw hammer and two Playstation 3 games.

DC Allison Fraser, of Fratton CID said: “This is an unusual and rare occurrence where the offender has been disturbed inside the house in the middle of the day. He had a hammer with him which had been used to prise open the double glazed window, and still had it on him when he confronted the victim in her bedroom.

“Given that it happened in broad daylight, I appeal to anyone that was in the area at the time who may have seen this man in that area, to get in touch.  He ran off when confronted, and was clearly surprised to see the victim in the house.”
