Woman Who Died Falling From Bridge Is Named

Police have identified a woman who died following a fall from a road bridge over the A31 at Ringwood yesterday morning (Wednesday, May 11).

She was Rebecca Mae Wheeler. She was 41 years old and local to the Ringwood area. She was divorced, lived alone, and was a voluntary worker. Her next of kin have been informed.

Officers were called at 4.39am after she was seen to climb over the bridge railings and fall into oncoming traffic. It is believed that she was struck by oncoming vehicles, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The A31 eastbound was closed for several hours at the A338 slip road both on and off the A31, causing long tailbacks.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is continuing.

A file is being prepared for the coroner, and an inquest will open soon.
