Two Hurt In Southampton House Fire

Two people have been taken to hospital after a serious house fire in the Thornhill area of Southampton.

Hampshire Fire and rescue service were called to Hinkler Road at 12:06 on Saturday July 6th to a fire in an end of terrace house where the roof and first floor were alight.

Four fire engines from Hightown, St Mary's and Botley were called, along with the ALP from St Mary's and an incident command unit.

Two people were taken to hospital by ambulance, but it's not known how badly they were injured.

Station manager Nigel Cooper said

"Crews were faced with a severe fire on the first floor spreading to the roof of an end of terrace building the crews prompt entry and effective firefighting contained this fire to the first floor and roof of the property enabling a rapid knockdown of the fire".

Crews also checked the adjoining properties roof space to ensure the fire hadn't spread, and spent a long time damping down.

Hampshire Fire and rescue services fire investigation unit are working with police to find out how the fire started.
