South Parade Pier Up For Auction

Southsea's South Parade Pier will be sold off at auction today (12/12/12).

It will go under the hammer at the Ageas Bowl, through Clive Emson auctioneers, at 11am. Offers are invited from £190,000.

There had been plans to redevelop the site into a waterfront attaction, but it's now thought repairs would cost £2 million pounds before it could re-open.

The venue has been closed to the public since Otober 31st due to safety concerns. Building surveys revealed that the steelwork holding the pier up is very rusty and some of the steel members are so badly corroded they are in danger of collapse.
