Serious Sexual Assault In Southampton Park

Police are investigating a serious sex attack in Southampton.

A 19-year-old woman's reported being assaulted shortly before 2am this morning (Friday 23 May) in Palmerston Park.
 
A police investigation is underway and the area remains cordoned off. The woman is currently receiving support from specially trained officers.
 
DI Jim Park said: 

“We understand the woman had been on a night out with friends on Thursday evening.
 
“She went into the park where she reports she was assaulted.
 
“Our investigation is focused on determining the exact circumstances of the incident and I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed what happened or was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious.
 
“There is nothing at this stage to link this investigation to previous recent allegations of sexual assault in Southampton.
 
“Officers from the Safer Neighbourhoods and Targeted Patrol teams will continue to focus patrols in the area.
 
“If you are heading for a night out with friends, please always be aware of yours and your friends’ personal safety. This is a message the police and our partners are continuing to promote to our communities in Southampton.”
