Officer Injured During Southampton Arrest

A police officer's needed hospital treatment after being assaulted during a call-out in Southampton.

He and a colleague had stopped a suspected stolen motorbike on West End Road yesterday, but two men got away while being arrested.

Hampshire Police said:

'An investigation is ongoing following an incident in West End Road/Chalk Hill just after 3pm on Tuesday 11 September.

'Two police officers in an unmarked car stopped a motorcycle as it had been reported stolen.

'The rider and pillion passenger were detained but evaded police custody during arrest. An officer was assaulted and received hospital treatment for injuries, he has since been discharged.

'Officers in Southampton and specialist units are actively searching for two suspects.'
