Investigation After Man Dies In Calmore House Fire

Police say they still have no idea how a fatal house fire in Calmore near Southampton started.
Officers were called to Yew Tree Cottage, the Drove at 8.10am on Tuesday 5 August.
Brent Mason, 66, who lived in the house, died following the fire. His next of kin have been informed.
Police say the result of a post-mortem examination was inconclusive and the death is being treated as unexplained.
The cause of the fire is currently unexplained.
Specialist officers from Hampshire Constabulary and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service remain at the scene today (Wednesday 6 August), gathering evidence for the investigation into the cause of the fire.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Barton said:
“We have begun an investigation into the cause of the fire. We’d like to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area between 7 and 8am on Tuesday.
“Officers have been carrying out house-to house enquiries in the area. We’d also like to thank local residents for their patience whilst the fire was being dealt with.”
