A 41 year old Southampton man has been assaulted by two men as he walked home with his wife and 12 year old daughter after celebrating another daughter’s 18th birthday.

They were walking eastwards along Winchester Road at around 1am on Sunday, February 20, almost opposite Dale Road and outside the flats in St James Close, when they noticed two men walking in the road.

The two men were walking in the middle of the road and stood in front of a passing taxi forcing it to stop. They exchanged verbal comments with the taxi driver before focussing their attention on the man and his family.

They commented on what the man was carrying and then carried out an unprovoked attack on him, punching him and kicking him to the floor and continuing to attack him while he was on the ground.

They are described as:

  • White
  • Aged 18-21 years old
  • One was wearing a grey sweatshirt and had mousey blonde hair.
  • The other was wearing a black t-shirt and had black hair with a fringe

They ran off along Winchester Road towards Shirley.

The man received injuries to his face and hand which were treated at Southampton General Hospital.  His wife and daughter were not harmed but were clearly very shocked and shaken by the ordeal.

If anyone witnessed the assault or saw the two offenders in the vicinity or knows who they are, they should contact Shirley police station on 101 or the Crimestoppers charity line anonymously on 0800 555 111.
