A mum from Southampton's been telling Capital how her family still get ill - after they caught a sickness bug at a Turkish holiday resort.
Bobby Bailey was staying at the Holiday Village Turkey with her 3 children back in 2008 when the bug spread across their hotel.
She says it was a nightmare:
“We were all ill, all at the same time. I was one my own, I was trying to cope with them, I was trying to deal with everything, it just wipes you out completely. I still suffer with stomach cramps and I still feel sick a lot of the time, which will never go away. Same with m, youngest child, my little girl, she still feels sick a lot and has stomach aches and my eldes,t he still has stomach aches, so none of us are absolutely clear of this”.
Bobby is one of over 300 holiday makers, including another family from Poole - who are suing holiday company First Choice over it.
In a statement First Choice have told Capital:
“We understands that a no win, no fee law firm have filed papers with a view to initiating court proceedings regarding allegations of illness at the Holiday Village Turkey in 2008.
Our legal team are engaged in ongoing negotiations with the law firm in order to resolve this issue amicably. Therefore, it would be inappropriate for us to make further comment on the case.
First Choice would like to take this opportunity to assure all its customers that we closely audit all the resorts to which we operate, including the Holiday Village Turkey, to ensure that health, hygiene and comfort levels are maintained. Reports of sickness in 2010 were minimal; in particular, out of the 46,000 customers who have stayed there this year, only 0.42% have reported minor ailments such as a mild stomach upset. This figure is extremely low, and has been substantiated by the Health Protection Agency, who have confirmed that they have received no reports of infection at the property this year.
The Holiday Village Turkey continues to be extremely popular with our guests. In the last year alone, 90% of guests rated the accommodation as good or excellent. We are confident that those customers due to travel to the resort in the future will enjoy the excellent levels of quality and standards they would expect from a First Choice property.”
