Firefighters have rescued eight people after a fire at a block of flats in Southampton.
Crews were called to Kingsland Place, in the St Mary's area of the city, at 0430 hrs this morning (12 July).
The fire was in a stairwell and the first and second floors were heavily smoke logged.
Three people had suffered minor effects due to smoke inhalation and all eight were checked over by the Southern Central Ambulance Service.
Watch Manager Stu Vince, the Incident Commander said:
"We were met with a potential life threatening situation, however due to our training and proffessionalism we dealt with the incident and were able to get everyone out of the building safely".
An investigation to find out the cause is starting - we're told it is thought to have been started deliberately.
