CCTV Of Bookies Robber Released

Detectives are appealing for information following a robbery at a bookmaker in Southampton.

It happened at Ladbrokes in Butts Road, Bitterne between 7.30pm and 8.00pm last night, Monday, April 4.

A white man wearing dark clothing entered the shop and threatened staff before taking a quantity of cash and running off.

The offender told staff he had a gun and pointed an object wrapped in a plastic bag at them. No weapon was actually seen and no shots were fired.

The offender is believed to have made off on foot in the direction of Heathfield Road.

Staff were left shaken but unhurt by the incident.

Officers have spoken to a number of witnesses already, but are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area last night and saw anything suspicious.

They are now releasing an image of the robber taken from CCTV cameras within the premises.

Detective Inspector Charlie Rimmer who is leading the investigation said:

“We have taken the positive step of releasing this image to the public at an early stage of the investigation in an effort to identify this person as soon as possible. I would like to stress that this is an isolated incident, though one that was clearly shocking and distressing for those involved..

“We believe this man to be local to the Southampton area and would like to hear from anyone who may be able to identify him, or who has information about the incident or the person responsible.

“I would advise people that they should not approach the man if known to them, but to call the police as soon possible."
