Cable Thief Causes Power Cut
Police are appealing for information after an attempted theft of power cables blacked out parts of Holbury, Blackfield and Fawley.
Between 1.30 -3.30am Sunday, October 7, someone tried to steal power cables from a site just off the B3057 at Stonehills, Fawley.
They took a ladder and a scaffolding pole to the scene, attempting to climb a wooden pylon and switch off the main power. The power wasn't isolated and, when the scaffold pole hit the power cable, there was an explosion which cut power to the area.
The scaffold pole has the letters D.S.I painted on the side. Both the pole and ladder were abandoned by the thief.
Police believe the explosion burned the hands of the person who held the scaffold pole.
They want to hear from anyone who has seen someone with a recent hand injury. They also want to hear from anyone who can identify a company that uses scaffold poles with D.S.I painted on them.
Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Jackie Conners at Hythe police station on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers charity line on 0800 555 111.
