Cable Stolen From Breast Screening Unit

Police in Ringwood are appealing for information after a thoughtless thief stole an electrical cable that connects the town’s temporary breast screening unit to its power supply.

The converted articulated truck trailer is in the town for a number of weeks carrying out essential breast screening. Based in the car park behind the recreation centre a cable normally connects the unit to the centre to provide power.

However at about 8.30pm on Monday, March 5 a thief walked up and stole the cable worth around £500 from the unit.

It meant the unit couldn’t open the next morning with 25 women having to have their mammogram appointments cancelled and rescheduled for next month because of the theft.

PC Lisa Roberts who is investigating the crime said: “Breast screening is an essential way of checking for the first signs of breast cancer and the earlier it is discovered the better the chances of curing it. This theft has meant for somewomen they will have to wait several more weeks to be seen.

“I would appeal for anyone with any information about who this thoughtless thief is or knows where the cable now is to get in touch. They can call me at Ringwood Police Station on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
