The Capital Weekender with Meg McHugh 10pm - 1am
Police are appealing for information after a bus driver was assaulted in Paulsgrove.
At some time between 6.40pm and 6.50pm on Friday, September 9 a 45-year-old bus driver was assaulted after he stopped his bus outside the shops on Allaway Avenue, Paulsgrove.
The driver had picked two men up from Palmerston Road. During the journey he had to warn the men about their behaviour as they were swearing and causing unrest for the other passengers.
When the driver stopped the bus on Allaway Avenue the two men left the bus. However, as the driver started to drive away, the men forced their way back onto the bus and assaulted the driver by punching and kicking him.
The men then got off the bus and headed along Allaway Avenue towards Nailsworth Road.
The victim was left with a fractured cheek as well as other bruising.
Both men are described as being aged between 18 and 20, 170-175cms tall, skinny build with short brown hair. They also both had paint on their clothing.
Detective Constable Chris Dinenage, said:
"This was a despicable crime against a hard working member of our community. The driver had to suffer a torrent of abuse throughout the journey and when he tried to stand his ground, the men attacked him. He has been left very shaken by this incident.
"This type of crime will not be tolerated by our community and we need to bring these offenders to justice. If you were on the bus from Palmerston Road and saw the men, or if you witnessed the incident in Allaway Avenue, please get in touch with us."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC Dinenage at Fratton CID on 101 or via the website www.hampshire.police.uk/internet/contact/message_officer.htm
