Body Found In Search For Missing Isle Of Wight Man

Police investigating the disappearance of an Isle of Wight man have found a body.

It was discovered in Gurnard near Cowes last night (Wednesday 30 April).
 
50-year-old Michael Hawkewell's family have been told, but formal identification hasn't taken place yet.

The death's not thought to be suspicious.

Michael, from Newport, was last seen on Friday 25 April 2014, at the Co-Op store on Terminus Road, Cowes.

A Hampshire Police spokesperson said:

"Detectives investigating the disappearance of a Isle of Wight man have found a body.
 
"A man’s body was discovered in Gurnard just after 8.00pm on Wednesday, April 30.
 
"Formal identification has yet to take place, but the family of Michael Hawkewell has been informed of the discovery.
 
"The death is currently being treated as non-suspicious and a file will be passed to the coroner in due course."
