'Stolen' £70k Found At Heathrow
Police have found a holdall containing seventy thousand pounds in foreign currency - which was originally reported as stolen.
The owner had flown into Heathrow and thought he'd loaded the luggage onto a coach as he continued his journey to Portsmouth.
When he arrived in Portsmouth he found that the item was not in the coach's hold and reported it stolen to Hampshire Police.
On reviewing CCTV, officers discovered that the man did not put the bag on the coach and that it was left at Heathrow.
The inquiry passed to the Metropolitan Police Service on Thursday 20 October and it was quickly confirmed that the holdall was in the lost property store at Heathrow Airport and the owner, aged 81, was told.
Arrangements are being made to reunite the owner with his property and to check that all the contents of the bag are still in intact.
PC Howard Day, based at Heathrow Airport, said:
"It is not everyday someone leaves behind a bag containing such a large quantity of cash at the Airport but thankfully working with Hampshire Police we were able to trace it and will get it back to the victim who was relieved to hear it had been found."
