30 Firefighters Tackle Bungalow Blaze
An investigation's underway after a severe fire in a bungalow at Pooksgreen in Marchwood.
Crews from Hythe, Lyndhurst, Totton, Eastleigh, Redbridge, St Marys, and Beaulieu were called to the scene at 9.55am on January the 18th, 2011.
A total of six fire appliances, the Special Equipment Unit from St Marys Fire Station, the Aerial Ladder Platform and the Small Fires Vehicle from Redbridge Hill Fire Station and the Incident Command Unit from Service Headquarters were in attendance.
One man was treated in hospital after breathing in smoke, but he wasn't badly hurt.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service Station Manager Mark White said:
“Crews worked hard at height cutting away sections of a porch located at the front of the property to stop the fire spreading further as the heat was radiating towards this structure which consists of compressed straw.
"The firefighters also removed tiles from the front and back of the collapsed roof which would have been a hazard to the structural engineer and fire investigating officer who required access to the building once it had been made safe.”
