Police are hunting a teenager who tried to rob a pensioner with a handgun in a "terrifying'' incident in Edinburgh.
The 67-year-old victim was sitting in his car when the suspect, thought to be aged around 16, approached his window and tried to get in.
The teenager demanded money before brandishing the firearm at the man, who was able to drive off.
The incident happened outside a property in Niddrie Mill Terrace at about 6.20pm on Friday.
Detective Inspector Graham Grant, who is leading the investigation, said: "Fortunately, no one was injured during this attempted robbery but there is no doubt that this was a terrifying experience.
"The male suspect was in possession of a handgun however, at this stage of our inquiry, we believe that this was not a functioning firearm.
"Uniformed officers will have a high-visibility presence in the area while we conduct our investigation and I appeal to anyone who has any relevant information to come forward immediately.''
The suspect, last seen running towards Niddrie Mains Road, is described as white, around 16 years old and approximately 5ft 6in.
He spoke with a local accent and was wearing a grey woolly hat and scarf and a grey and black tracksuit.
