A man's died in police custody in Paisley.

Officers were called to a disturbance at a flat in Ferguslie Park yesterday morning - and a 39 year old man died later in hospital.

Detectives say a number of people were detained.

The police watchdog is investigating what happened.

This is what they said: "The Police Investigation & Review Commissioner (PIRC) has been instructed by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) to conduct an investigation into the circumstances leading up to the death in custody of a 39-year-old man.

"The man became ill after being detained by Police Scotland on Friday 25 November 2016.

"He was then transferred to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, where he later died that day.

"A report into the findings will be submitted to the COPFS in due course."
