A young woman who died after the car she was a passenger in crashed into a tree has been named by police.
Ashley King, 20, died in hospital following the collision off the A760 near Largs, North Ayrshire, at about 8.30am on Wednesday.
The 21 year-old woman who was driving the grey Seat Ibiza was also taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital but was released after treatment for minor injuries.
Police said the car mounted a grass verge close to Blair Park Farm and collided with a tree.
A number of drivers who were on the road stopped to help and contacted the emergency services.
The family of Ms King, from Kilbirnie, have been informed.
Sergeant Ian Thornton said: "Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding this collision and I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the grey Seat Ibiza being driven on the A760 to contact the divisional road policing unit at Irvine via the police non-emergency number 101.''
