Boy, 8, In Hospital After Bus Crash In Glasgow

An eight-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after a collision between a double-decker bus and an industrial vehicle on the southside of Glasgow.

The accident happened on the First Bus service at about 10am in the Shawlands area on Tuesday.

The boy, who was travelling on the double-decker, was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

It is believed part of the large industrial vehicle, which is understood to be used for for road paving, crashed through the top front window of the bus as the vehicles collided on Pollokshaws Road outside the Granary pub.

Police Scotland say the 43-year-old bus driver has been reported to the procurator fiscal in connection with alleged road traffic offences.

A spokeswoman said: "At around 10am police received a report of a crash involving a bus and another vehicle on Pollokshaws Road at its junction with Kilmarnock Road in Shawlands.

"A 43-year-old man has been reported to the procurator fiscal in connection with alleged road traffic offences.''

The eight-year-old is not believed to be seriously injured after the long arm of the pavement milling machine smashed through the top window of the bus.

Police said the road was closed between its junction with Kilmarnock Road and Eastwood Avenue while emergency services dealt with the crash.

A First Glasgow spokesman said: "First Glasgow can confirm that one of our buses has been involved in an incident on Pollokshaws Road, Glasgow, this morning.

"We are working closely with the emergency services and have launched a full investigation to establish what happened. Our thoughts are with those affected.''
