A bystander was stabbed in the leg after a fight broke out between two groups at the end of a night-out in Glasgow.

Four men and two women were outside a takeaway shop in Sauchiehall Street at about 1.15am on Sunday when they were approached by a group of seven men.

Police said a large fight then broke out, with several people assaulted, but the incident was not reported to officers and both groups made off.

A short time later, a 39-year-old man who had been standing outside the takeaway when the disturbance broke out and had no connection to either group discovered he had been stabbed in the leg.

Officers are now checking CCTV and appealing for witnesses.

Police said descriptions of those involved are limited but one female had blonde hair, was wearing a black crop top, white skirt and knee-length socks.

Detective Constable Mark Paterson said: "A man who had nothing to do with this incident has ended up being stabbed in the leg.

"Sauchiehall Street is a busy street with many revellers on nights-out. I am asking anyone who was in the area around the time of this incident to contact us. They could have information which could prove vital in helping us trace the members of both groups.

"It's possible people thought the incident wasn't so serious but an innocent bystander has been attacked by someone intent on causing harm, even though he had nothing to do with either group or the trouble that flared up between them."
