A man is in a serious condition in hospital after a murder bid in Glasgow city centre.
The 40-year-old man was attacked in West George Street early on Saturday morning and police were called out at around 2.45am.
Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
He has since been transferred to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where medical staff describe his condition as serious.
Police are treating the attack as attempted murder.
Detective Sergeant Phil Kennedy said: ''It's clear from our initial inquiries that this man has been the victim of a serious assault.
''We are in the process of establishing the man's movements and trying to find out the exact circumstances of the attack.
''We will of course be reviewing CCTV footage collected from the various cameras in the city centre to gain additional information but I'm appealing to anyone who may have been in the area last night to contact us.
''Please pass on any information you may have, it could prove vital in our ongoing inquiries into this violent attack.''
