A woman's been found dead at a house in Newcastle following reports of a break-in.
Officers were called to an address last night in Fordmoss Walk in West Denton.
They attended and found the body of a 45-year-old woman inside the address and are treating her death as suspicious.
Following enquiries a 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody.
It is believed that the victim and the arrested man are known to each other.
Uniformed officers are in the area and making enquiries, and during Saturday, will be speaking to residents in the area and carrying out reassurance patrols.
The address has been cordoned off by police while the investigation continues.
Police are appealing for anyone who might have seen or heard anything suspicious in the Fordmoss Walk area on Friday, to contact them.
