Unemployment Up By 5,000 In The North East

The number of people out of work in the North East has risen by 5,000 in the three months to July.
New stats show between May and July 136,000 were unemployed in our region, which is a 10.4% unemployment rate.
That's the highest rate in the country.
It's also up by 1,000 on this time last year.
Nationally, unemployment fell by 24,000 to nudge the jobless rate lower, but the number of part-time workers surged to a record high.
The Office of National Statistics data showed unemployment fell to 2.49 million, driving the unemployment rate to 7.7% from 7.8%.
