An elderly man who died after a crash on the A1 near the Swarland junction has been named by police
80 year old Eric Smith from Simonside Avenue in Choppington died after his Ford Fiesta collided with a Citroen Berlingo van.
It happened on Friday the 30th of December at 1:10pm just north of Felton, Northumberland.
Police believe that at the time of the crash the Fiesta was travelling away from the junction and the Berlingo was travelling north when they collided.
Police, fire and ambulance services attended the scene and the road was closed for around four hours to allow for the vehicles to be recovered and collision investigation to take place.
A passenger in the Fiesta suffered minor injuries as did the driver of the Berlingo.
Enquiries into the collision are ongoing and police are continuing to appeal for witnesses. Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact Northumbria Police Road Safety Unit on 101 ext 62953
