The mum of a County Durham man killed a few days before Christmas says the pain and misery for the family has got "deeper every day''.
33 year old David Scott from Stanley, died on Sunday, December 23rd from stab wounds.
A murder investigation's been launched.
His mum, Janice Scott, who he'd been living with along with his two young children, has spoken of her loss and how the family has been torn apart by his death.
The 61 year old said:
"My son was left to die in the street like an animal and the pain and misery for the whole family gets deeper every day.
David had a large family in the south of England who have all been torn apart by what has happened.
Christmas Eve was awful as I was wrapping presents for his children when he should have been doing it.
Christmas Day was terrible for his children as he wasn't there. His little girl is seven in January and she just wants her daddy back.
I'd like to thank the neighbours who tried to help David as he was lying hurt in the street and the medical team at the RVI (Royal Victoria Infirmary) who worked so hard to try and save him.
I would also like to thank the police for their hard work and sensitivity. We must find who did this, they must not be allowed to get away with it.''
Durham Constabulary are continuing to appeal for information and are asking for any witnesses to come forward.
In particular they want to speak to anyone who saw a young man wearing a blue body warmer in the area
