Man Charged Over Newcastle Stabbing

A man's been charged over the fatal stabbing of a woman in Newcastle.

41 year old Sarah Gosling, died in hospital after being stabbed in the chest at a house in Tewkesbury Road, on Saturday evening (25th Feb).

52 year old Ian Hope, who police say knew Ms Gosling and also lived on Tewkesbury Road, has been charged with her murder.

Police said they called to the house at 8pm on Saturday. Paramedics took the woman to hospital, but medics were unable to save her.

A post-mortem examination found that Ms Gosling died of a single stab wound to the chest.

Detective Chief Inspector Christina Barrett, of Northumbria Police, said:
"I would ask anyone who has any information to contact police.

Local officers are out and about in the area, and I would like to reassure people that the victim and arrested man were known to each other."

The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission after it emerged police were at the flat on Tewkesbury Road in Lemington just hours before Ms Gosling died.
