Coxhoe Man Dies After Crash On A1

A man from Coxhoe has died in hospital following a crash on the A1 on Sunday.

25-year-old Kevin Campbell was seriously hurt when his car crashed at 7.40 am on Sunday 12th January. 

The man from Bridge End, was driving his Fiat Punto on the southbound carriageway, when the car left the road and collided with a crash barrier and then a tree. 

The crash happened about a mile south of junction 60 at Bradbury. 

Mr Campbell was airlifted to the James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough with serious head and chest injuries. 

Sadly, on Tuesday he died from his injuries.

He is originally from Edinburgh where his parents and younger brother still live, and he worked at a care home in Darlington.

Mr Campbell was on his way to work when the crash took place.

Police are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to ring 101 and ask for either road policing or the collision investigation unit.
