A biker's died after coming off his motorbike on the A68 on the outskirts of Bishop Auckland.
The accident happened at 5:10pm on Thursday, 19th April as the victim, a man in his 40s was riding his green Kawasaki Z1000SX bike on the A68 from West Auckland towards High Etherly.
As he neared a point on the road approximately 100m from the junction with Ullswater Avenue, the rider attempted to overtake two other vehicles, a blue Vauxhall Zafira and a red Citroen Saxo.
Police believe the bike has then collided with the offside of Zafira which led to the rider losing control of his machine.
He then came off his bike and suffered fatal injuries as a result. He was confirmed dead at the scene.
The victim, who is from Bishop Auckland is not being named until police are sure all his immediate family are aware.
The driver of the Zafira and the driver and passenger in the Saxo were all unhurt.
Police are appealing for any witnesses who have not already come forward to contact the collision investigation unit on 0191 375 2159.
