Following reports of Disney and Sony failing to reach an agreement, Marvel no longer share the rights to co-produce any more Spider-Man films.
Hate to be the bearer of the worst news ever but um, Tom Holland's Spider-Man will reportedly no longer be part of the MCU thanks to a stalemate between Marvel and Sony Pictures in negotiations.
According to a report by Deadline, Marvel and Disney will now be parting ways with the Spider-Man franchise "because of an inability by Disney and Sony Pictures to reach new terms that would have given the former a co-financing stake going forward."
According to io9, a Sony representative said it’s their belief this dispute is simply over a producer credit and negotiations are ongoing.
In case you weren't aware, Marvel/Disney wasn't the sole owner of the Spider-Man franchise. The Spider-Man film rights were part owned by Sony, who co-produced both of Tom Holland's box office record breaking solo movies.
Now that Marvel no longer have the rights to Spider-Man, the version of Peter Parker played by Tom Holland will likely no longer appear in any MCU films going forward. That also means that no MCU characters will appear in any Spider-Man films either.
So you can kiss Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. goodbye. You can cancel your wishes for a Peter Parker/Women of Marvel crossover movie. Spider-Man as Iron Man's successor? Nope. Not anymore! Avengers 5? GOODBYE!
Needless to say, the decision hasn't gone down well with fans at all.
so sony thinks they can make better spider-man movies when they couldn’t even do a decent job with the posters. i see. pic.twitter.com/dX9fOnY4eY

I think it's cool that Sony is carrying on its tradition of completely fucking up Spider-Man 3.

Many fans are speculating that the jig was up when Marvel president Kevin Feige didn't announce any news about Spider-Man 3 at SDCC during the big Marvel Phase 4 reveal.
While nothing has been confirmed, there is reportedly two more Spider-Man films starring Tom Holland set to happen. Far From Home ended on a huge post-credit cliffhanger that set up the future of the franchise. Deadline's sources state that Tom Holland and director Jon Watts will still be part of those films.
